MISSION & PHILOSOPHY

Our mission at Destrehan High School is to provide a nurturing community of teaching and learning in which all students will continuously improve to become responsible, contributing members of society.

Destrehan High School, home of the Fighting Wildcats, was established in 1924 and moved to its present location in 1975. The school offers a comprehensive education for all students, providing them with opportunities to reach their full potential by participating in numerous academic programs, the arts, extracurricular activities, and athletics. Throughout the high school journey, students are provided the tools, paths, and support needed to be successful in accomplishing their goals.

PSAT Registration Information

Registration for the PSAT/NMSQT will take place August 8th-21st. The PSAT is the test used to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship competition and is used for some other corporate scholarships. The score earned in junior year counts for the scholarship competition.

Sophomores are encouraged to take it as a practice for the test in junior year. It is also a good practice for the SAT, a college entrance exam at many out-of-state colleges. The cost of this test is $18. This fee is non-refundable and must be submitted along with your registration form before the end of the day on Friday, August 21, 2026. Registration forms are available in the DHS Administration office, counseling suite, on the school’s website, and can be found in your student’s grade level Google Classroom.

The PSAT/NMSQT for 11th graders is Thursday, October 8, 2026. The PSAT/NMSQT for 10th graders will be given on Thursday, October 15, 2026 beginning at 7:30 a.m.

SCPPS Leads Louisiana in Algebra I, Earns Top Marks Across High School LEAP Subjects

St. Charles Parish Public Schools (SCPPS) high school students continue to demonstrate strong academic performance, earning some of the highest rankings statewide on the most recent Louisiana Educational Assessment Program (LEAP) assessments.

SCPPS ranked No. 1 in Louisiana in high school Algebra I, while both Geometry and Biology ranked No. 3 statewide. Multiple other high school courses also finished among Louisiana’s Top 10, including English I, English II, and U.S. History.

SCPPS Launches Full Implementation of 7 Mindsets and Celebrates Student Success

St. Charles Parish Public Schools is continuing its partnership with 7 Mindsets as the program enters its first year of full district implementation during the 2026-2027 school year. In addition to supporting social-emotional learning in schools, the partnership is creating unique opportunities for students to participate in leadership and empowerment experiences beyond the classroom.

Courtney Berthelot teaches U.S. History to juniors at Destrehan High School and has 10 years of experience. Inspired by the teachers who shaped her, she creates a classroom where students feel supported and challenged to grow, leaving a lasting impact.

Cecilia Cody

"I love serving my community, specifically through opportunities when I can make people laugh."

Cecilia Cody, a senior at Destrehan High School, serves as President of the Hispanic Honor Society and is a member of the Desty Darlings Dance Team. She is also a student entrepreneur and the owner of Cece Sketched It!. Driven by leadership, creativity, and academic excellence, she aspires to make a meaningful impact through a future career in the medical field.

Destrehan High School is honored to partner with Shell Norco in support of the education of our students.

Shell employees speak with students about possible future careers at one of Destrehan's Workforce Wednesdays. Shell provides the school with an annual donation of $20,000 to support various school projects throughout the year.
