MISSION & PHILOSOPHY

Our mission at Destrehan High School is to provide a nurturing community of teaching and learning in which all students will continuously improve to become responsible, contributing members of society.

Destrehan High School, home of the Fighting Wildcats, was established in 1924 and moved to its present location in 1975. The school offers a comprehensive education for all students, providing them with opportunities to reach their full potential by participating in numerous academic programs, the arts, extracurricular activities, and athletics. Throughout the high school journey, students are provided the tools, paths, and support needed to be successful in accomplishing their goals.

Human Resources Department Hosts Celebration for New Teachers

On January 28, 2025, the Human Resources Department hosted a New Teacher Celebration at the Professional Learning Center in Luling to celebrate teachers new to St. Charles Parish Public Schools. New teachers who began working within the district this school year were invited to the event, where they were thanked for choosing SCPPS, celebrated for their dedication to students, and encouraged to continue in their rewarding yet demanding jobs.

School System Raises More Than $100,000 for United Way of St. Charles

St. Charles Parish Public Schools raised $114,119.16 for the United Way of St. Charles through its 2024 fundraising campaign. An overview of the school system’s campaign was presented to the school board at its meeting on January 15, 2025, where Superintendent Dr. Ken Oertling and School Board President Ray Gregson presented United Way of St. Charles Executive Director John Dias with a check on behalf of the school system’s employees and students.

PowerSchool Cybersecurity Breach Notifications in Progress

St. Charles Parish Public Schools has received new information regarding PowerSchool's ongoing response to its recent cybersecurity incident. In an update provided to affected school systems, PowerSchool shared that it has begun the process of notifying individuals whose information was involved and outlined next steps.
